Uit het archief: De Alouette III

De Alouette III helikopter was vóór 1995 een bekende verschijning in het Nederlandse luchtruim en is onder andere in gebruik geweest bij de Koninklijke Luchtmacht (KLu).
Vooral de Texelaar die wel eens over de Postweg rijdt zal de Alouette herkennen, want er staat er eentje langs de weg bij de hangaar van het vliegveld!

De Alouette bij het vliegveld is gespoten in de kleuren van een reddings-(SAR) helikopter van de KLu met de registratie H-08 en het de heli staat daar sinds het voorjaar van 2016.
De 'echte' H-08 bestaat overigens niet meer... Die Alouette, met de naam 'Wilma', werd na een ongeval op 8 oktober 1971 afgeschreven.

Het toestel dat hier op Texel staat had oorspronkelijk de registratie A-366 en deed van april 1966 tot januari 1995 dienst bij de KLu. Daarna is de heli gebruikt als grondinstructieheli bij de HTS in Haarlem en vervolgens bij de TU in Delft. Tot slot is het, na een tijdelijke opslag op de vliegbasis Gilze-Rijen, uiteindelijk naar Texel 'verhuisd'...

De Alouette III was in het verleden ook regelmatig te zien bij de Texel Airshows… Vaak waren dit toestellen van het Grasshoppers aerobatiekteam van de KLu, opgericht in 1973. Het team vloog met vijf toestellen in een zwart-wit gestreept en later rood-wit-blauw kleurenschema. Na het uitfaseren van de Alouette III helikopter door de KLu werd het team in 1995 opgeheven.

De Alouette had ook enkele bijzondere taken… Leden van het Koninklijk huis werden vaak per KLu Alouette vervoerd naar verschillende bestemmingen in Nederland, waaronder Texel: op 18 juni 1969 bracht onder andere toenmalig koningin Juliana een bezoek aan het eiland in een Alouette III van de luchtmacht, waarbij men landde op het voetbalveld van De Koog aan de Boodtlaan.
Op 9 juni 1976 arriveerde Prins Claus met een Alouette III SAR-helikopter om het Natuurrecreatiecentrum Texel te openen.

Verder zijn er ook wel buitenlandse Alouette III’s op Texel geweest, zoals de Franse heli met registratie F-BHOS van het bedrijf Heli Union. Het toestel was in verband met de zoektocht naar olie ingehuurd door oliemaatschappij Elf Petroland en was daarvoor in 1964 enige tijd op het vliegveld gestationeerd.

Be present well in advance for an explanation

Together with a museum employee you walk to the bunker opposite the museum. In the bunker you will be taken into the conversations that were held there during the 2 most crucial days of the Georgian Uprising. Jetty Bakker also tells in a timeline her memories of the war on Texel and about her work for the Georgians. You will receive an explanatory handout in advance with a description of the dire circumstances in which the Georgian soldiers found themselves during those days. The 3D audio tour can be done in both Dutch, German and English.
